Obituary

Barbara A. Kable of Swampscott passed away suddenly on Saturday January 16, 2021 at the age of 82.  She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph G. Kable in 2011, a loss which she always felt thereafter.  Daughter of Annie Canavan (Oakes) and George Oakes, sister of George Oakes, Mary Sibilia, and the late Francis Oakes, Barbara was born and raised in South Boston where she graduated from High School.  Barbara would eventually move to Swampscott where she raised her family and made her home for the rest of her life.  Barbara worked as a telephone operator for AT&T, and later Verizon, from which she retired.  She is survived by her three children Christine Kable of Swampscott, Joseph Kable and wife Julie of Georgetown, as well as Christopher Kable and wife Kathy of Sandown NH.  She was also the loving and doting grandmother of her two grandchildren, Katiana Kable and Joseph Kable.  She spent her final time living in the company of her sister Mary, who helped her to be able to live independently on her own terms in her final years.
Anyone who knew Barbara knew her to be a woman of some passionate loves and opinions.   In both cases her strongest passions were usually reserved for her beloved New York Yankees, and her intolerance for bad relief pitching.   She loved to play bingo, watch game shows, and most of all spend time in the company of her grandchildren.  Those of us lucky enough to have known her knew a woman of tremendous toughness, and unconditional love.  She complained about nothing, and would give those around her anything.  Everyone who was a part of her life was and is lucky to have called her Mother, Sister, Wife, and Friend.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Judes Children's Hospital, a charity she admired and supported.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Goodrich Funeral Home, 128 Washington Street, Lynn.  There will be a small family only gathering Friday January 22nd, followed by internment at Swampscott Cemetery at Noon.
