Bernard W. Fennell, 96, a longtime resident of Lynn, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2024 at MGH surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy E. Mckernan. He was born in Lowell MA the son of the late Margaret (Harrington) Fennell and William E. Fennell.
Bernard attended grammar school in Lowell and went on to graduate from Keith Academy. Bernard served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in Japan as an Army Corporal. He was very proud to have served his country. After his time in the service he went on to work at the First National Store in Lowell and Lynn as a grocer upon his retiring.
His passion was dancing! He and his late wife Dottie were a great dance couple. You could never get him off the dance floor. He also loved dinner theater and the bright lights of a Casino. He was affectionately known as "Neil" to many who knew him in Lynn. Bernard also loved long walks at King's Beach on Lynn Shore Drive. But most importantly he loved being surrounded by his family and friends.
At the time of his passing he was a resident of the Chelsea Soldiers' Home. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff for the wonderful care he received there.
Bernard is survived by his son William P. Fennell and his wife Carol of Pepperell MA. He is also survived by his daughter Mary G. Wallace of Tucson AZ and his sister Eleanor Desmond of Woburn MA. His stepson Paul Mckernan and his wife Donna of NH, his stepdaughters Cheryl Mckernan of Salem MA and Claire Areyzaga of Danvers MA.
Bernard is also predeceased by his wife Abigail C. Collins, his son Daniel J. Fennell and stepson Gary Mckernan. He also leaves many grandchildren, great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, May 1st from 11:00am to 12:30pm at Goodrich Funeral Home 128 Washington St. Lynn MA followed by a Military Service at Pine Grove Cemetery.
