IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carol L.
Jones
January 22, 2023
Carol Lavina (Breedy) Jones, age 82, a longtime resident of Lynn, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sunday, January 22, 2023, after a long illness. Carol was born on December 21, 1940, in Lynn, Massachusetts. She was raised in Lynn, attending the Public Schools of the city. Carol was employed as an Inspector at General Electric for 35 years.
From an early age, Carol developed a deep empathy for the suffering and sense of hopelessness that characterized those communities close to Lynn. Her passionate, tenacious, and fearless commitment to making these communities a more perfect Union catapulted her into a powerful leadership role during the Civil Rights era. Carol courageously led the social justice movements despite significant personal risk. She was also a member of the GE Teamsters Union, traveling to Washington, DC, on many occasions as their representative to support significant issues. We celebrate Carol's life of selfless service to others. She leaves a heroic legacy of an undaunted commitment to improving the lives of others.
Carol met her husband, Alden "Denny" Jones, who was the love of Carol's life over 64 years ago. Their young love flourished and formed an unbreakable union. You would rarely see one without the other; they enjoyed traveling together, dining out, visiting family and friends, and hosting some of the best parties the city has ever seen. Carol loved her daughters, the 3 D's: Denise, Darlene, and Doreen along with the rest of the family.
Carol enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and family time. She loved playing cards, hitting the casinos, going deep-sea fishing, and traveling. She sacrificially helped raise several generations of kids. Both across her family and the neighborhood where she was a grandmother to many.
She is survived by a sister, Gloria (Breedy) Pitcher of Lynn. Carol leaves to mourn three daughters, Denise A. Jones of Methuen, Darlene Coleman of Malden, and Doreen Jones of Lynn. Carol also leaves her ten grandchildren, Robert Jones, Monique Jones, Herbert Jones, Monica Jones, Toniea Coleman, Anthony D. Coleman, Raven Coleman, Jamaal White, Damien Reynolds, and Darryl Reynolds. She also leaves seven great-grandchildren, Arianna Jones, Avonie Whitley-Jones, LaTrell Gibson, Ci'Ameri Jones, Shawn Coleman Jr., Jayden White, and Jaycee White. Carol is predeceased by her husband, Alden Denny Jones, her parents, May (Harris) Breedy and William Alfred (Fritze) A. Breedy, and grandson, Shawn Coleman. She also leaves to mourn a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, close friends, and many others who affectionately called her "Nana or Aunt Carol."
