Obituary

Deborah A. (McDonald) Delaney, a long-time resident of Salem and recently Swampscott, passed away after a brief illness on August 30, 2022. Deborah was born on June 11, 1948 in Lynn, MA and was the second of six children in a loving, Irish Catholic family. She graduated from Lynn English High School in 1966, and from Burdett College in 1968. She worked for the Office of Admissions at Salem State University for decades until her retirement in 2002. In 1987, Deborah's life was forever changed when she met the love of her life, David Delaney. They married in October of that year and were blessed with 35 years of marriage, until his death earlier this year. Together, Deborah and David enjoyed traveling, cooking and entertaining family and friends.

Deborah is survived by her loving sisters Marybeth Callahan and husband Rick and Bernadette McDonald, four stepsons and their families, David and wife Diana, Raymond and partner Kim, Paul and wife Noel and Sean; five grandchildren who lovingly knew her as Doodle: Ian, Quinn, Zylee, Hannon and Amelia. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a host of cousins.

Deborah was preceded in death by her loving husband David, her parents Joseph and Marthajane McDonald, sister Kathleen Jones, and brothers Joseph and Daniel McDonald.

Deborah enjoyed being active in the community most recently as a member of the Woman's Friend Society.  She loved to laugh and more importantly, she loved to make people laugh. Her family will miss her wicked sense of humor, her fun stories, and her famous Doodle Cake. She had an impeccable sense of style and was always known for her fashion.  She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.

A celebration of Deborah's life will be held at a later date. Donations in Deborah's memory can be made to Woman's Friend Society, Salem, MA.
