Diana Jean (Crawford Jones) Brown peacefully departed this life, surrounded by her -loving family, on December 16, 2024.
Born on August 24, 1948, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Diana was raised in Boston, where her journey of love, creativity, and dedication to her family and community began. Her passion for learning guided her into a lifelong career in education. Along this journey, Diana found the love of her life, Joseph Brown Jr.. Together, they built a family rooted in love, faith, and resilience, creating a bond that inspired everyone who knew them.
Diana's love story with Joseph Brown Jr. was one for the ages. They were married on February 12, 1966, embarking on a journey of partnership and unwavering devotion that spanned 39 beautiful years. Together, they created a home filled with laughter, warmth, and countless cherished memories. Their bond was a shining example of enduring love, and the legacy of their union continues to inspire their family, and all who were fortunate enough to witness their remarkable connection.
Diana's sense of style was a true reflection of her grace and poise. From her elegantly adorned hats and gloves to her timeless pearls, she carried herself with an unmatched sophistication. Her keen eye for fashion and precision made her effortlessly elevate anyone's wardrobe.
Diana had an incredible ability to anticipate needs before they were even realized. She was the ultimate planner, going beyond the traditional role of a grandmother with mints in her purse. Diana's "emergency kits" were legendary—not just jumper cables, but sewing kits, portable grills, raincoats, and blankets. Her trusty vehicles were a treasure trove of preparedness, embodying her thoughtful and resourceful nature. Long before ride-sharing apps existed, she was the ultimate chauffeur, ensuring her loved ones were always where they needed to be. Whether for a family gathering, a game, or an unexpected moment, Diana was always ready, ensuring that those around her were cared for and equipped with whatever they might need. As her being the " The ultimate planner" we know she has already written her own obituary, but we haven't found it yet. We're hoping this one will suffice. If not, she'll correct this with her red pen from Heavenly High.
Diana loved everyone with her miracle hands, turning ordinary moments into extraordinary acts of care and creativity. Those who knew her witnessed her ability to transform love into tangible expressions of kindness, often immortalized in the "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" containers she so cleverly repurposed. Known as the DIY Queen, Diana's creativity and resourcefulness knew no bounds. A passionate supporter of her loved ones, Diana was a fixture at games and events, cheering with boundless enthusiasm.
Her Thanksgiving feasts were legendary, featuring a decadent spread of food that one could only imagine, bringing family and friends together in joy and gratitude.
Diana was an educator in every sense of the word. After 47 years, she retired from the Lynn Public School system, where she was affectionately known as "Mrs. D. Brown." Beyond academics, she taught life lessons with grace and intention. She instilled in women the importance of politeness and etiquette, often reminding them of the value of being seen and heard with purpose. She emphasized responsibility and self-care for the men in her life, famously providing "kitchen sink facials" and preparing them for life's big moments, like prom.
Diana's concept of family went far beyond mere bloodlines; she embraced and redefined every neighborhood she touched. Her home at 48 became a sanctuary, a place of refuge for those who needed stability and support. Though she may have left this world, her love, wisdom, and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone she touched.
Diana leaves a lasting impact of love and treasured moments held close by her family. She is survived by her three momma's boys, Joseph Brown III, Arthur Jason Brown, and Jonathan Richard Brown, and her beloved daughter, Donnyell Martela Curry. Diana's nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate children, as she was a steadfast guide to her youngest sister, Teresa Marion Carrington, and her brother-in-law, Steven Grady Brown. Her love also embraced Kristina Lloyd, Michelle Smith, Natasha Nicole Thorton, and Tammy Shanté Williams, whom she supported.
Her grandchildren—Philip Everton Mullings, Bryan Antonio McFadden, Natasha Rose McFadden, Kahdijah Nicole McFadden, Jarred Dayshawn McFadden, Enos Alexander Mullings III, Ashley Brigette Mullings, Akiyah Jane Brown, Tatianna Nicole Brown, Tashanna Marie Bowen, Jalen Richard Brown, Jasmine Chantel Brown, Jordan Rashard Brown, Jakeel Rashawn Brown, Rashaun Lee Hendrend, Dakota Najim Curry, Denva Nadia Curry, Jonyce Shante Smith, Justine "Louise" Smith, Nicole Rene Moore, and Jacklyn Marie Smith. Diana was further blessed with eight great-grandchildren: Calianna Jaylean Breckenridge, Aliemeriah Captoria Monaie Smith, Elianna Marie Brown, Jaianna Emilia Bowen, Jordan Rashard Brown Jr., Michaela Rene McRae, Mia Marie McRae each a testament to the love and legacy she leaves behind. Her family, spanning generations, will forever carry the warmth of her love and the wisdom of her guidance.
She also leaves behind her siblings, Georgina Dottin, Paula Jones, Darlene Jones, Belinda Crawford, David Crawford, Ronald "RJ" Jones and Teresa Carrington. Diana was blessed with a son-in-law, Kamil David Curry, and a daughter-in-law Michael Brown. Her in-laws are Isabela Parks, Claudia Hyppolite, Richard Brown, Arthur Brown, Victoria Brown, Mr. & Mrs. Steven Grady Brown, Mr. & Mrs. Paul Carrington, Lawrence Edward Dottin, and Rubin Knight. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and dear friends.
Preceding her in death were her birth mother, Mayetta Harding, the mother who raised her, Meta Harding-Crawford, her father, Howard R. Jones Sr., late spouse Joseph Brown Jr., and her siblings Howard Jones Jr., Valiaza Knight, Earl Jones, James Crawford Jr., Errol Charles Crawford; her in-laws Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Brown Sr.; sister-in-law Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Humphrey, brother-in-law Ralph Brown, sister-in-law Vondalyn Brown; and supported Felicia Charlotte Lyttle and her beloved dog Endicott Johnson Brown.
Diana's life was a testament to the boundless love she shared with everyone fortunate enough to know her, creating a legacy that will be treasured for generations.
