Edward B. Johns Jr., age 78, a lifelong resident of Lynn, died January 1, 2018, at Salem Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of 56 years to Gloria (Mostacci) Johns.
Born and raised in Lynn, Edward was the son of the late Edward B. Johns Sr. and Viola (Pawlyk) Johns. Ed was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School, class of 1956, where he excelled as an athlete in football, basketball and baseball. He attended Mass Maritime Academy and received his Bachelor's degree at Boston College. Ed went on to continue his education at Salem State Teachers College, where he received his Master's degree in Education.
Throughout his career as an educator, Ed was a teacher, math coordinator, and Deputy Superintendent of the Lynn Public Schools. He served as a football and baseball coach, an umpire and a referee.
Ed was an avid sports fan. He was a horse enthusiast; a member of the Turf Club at Suffolk Downs, and also enjoyed Wonderland Race Track. You could always find Ed reading. He loved to learn.
He was the father of Tammy Garron and her husband Ron, Gina Newton and her husband Herb and Edward B. III and his wife Alexandra. He leaves four grandchildren who he adored, Kristy and Herbie Newton, Jessica Garron and Gia Johns. He was the brother of Janice Littlefield and her husband Ralph and the late Wayne Johns; half brother of Holly Shorten, Alison Dichiara and Marilyn Starratt and nephew to Aunt Ruth McGovern.
