LYNN -- George William Collins, 82, the sixth child of the late Irvin Henry and Mabel (Hennessey) Collins, died on April 3. He was the husband of the late Florence Ann (Farrell) Collins.
George was a lifelong resident of Lynn; he attended St. Mary's School and Lynn Public Schools. He enlisted in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and took great pride in his service to his country and considered his service one of his greatest accomplishments.
A master electrician, he worked for many years at the former Lynn and Union hospitals. He worked as an electrician in the Lynn public schools, from which he retired, as well as for himself as an electrician
George was an usher at St. Mary's Parish and a long-time American Red Cross volunteer. He was known for his unstinting generosity and willingness to come to the assistance of others, including using his training as a Master Electrician, often without sending a bill.
George leaves a large family including his sister Patricia Flaherty of Wilmington, his brothers, John C. Collins and his wife Kathleen of New Hampshire and the Rev. James R. Collins of Rhode Island, his stepdaughter Teri Morganti, his sisters- in -law Catherine Collins of Georgia and Gloria Collins of Saugus and his brothers-in- law Richard and Joseph Farrell.
George was also the uncle of 20 nieces and nephews and the cousin of Mary Clutchey and her husband Thor Jourgensen.
George was the brother of the late Henry Collins, Thomas Collins, Sr. Elaine Collins CSJ and Janet M. Collins and the brother-in-law of the late John Flaherty.
.A wake in his memory will be held at Goodrich Funeral Home, 128 Washington St., on Saturday April 20 from 9 am to 11 am followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 am at St Mary's of the Sacred Heart Church, 8 South Common Street, Lynn.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations can be made in George's memory to the American Red Cross or St. Mary's of the Sacred Heart Parish Lynn, MA.
