After a brief illness George (Dorsey) Franklin Young Sr., born on Sept. 9, 1933, died peacefully on Nov. 21, 2018 at his home in Palm Bay, Fla.
He was born and raised in Lynn and went to Lynn schools. He served in the United States Air Force stationed in Bermuda where he met his beloved wife of 64 years, Anne Theresa (Paiva) Young, who passed away on June 22, 2017. After his service George went on to work many different jobs until both Anne and George ran Dorsey and Anne's Variety located on Union Street in Lynn. He ended his working career at General Electric where he retired from. George was a happy and loving man. He enjoyed all Boston sports, but some of his best days were watching the Boston Red Sox with his wife. He played softball for many years for the Buckingham. Bowling was another passion. He also enjoyed watching old movies and cowboy shows. After retiring George and Anne moved to Florida where they met and enjoyed a great circle of friends. They lived their life to the fullest. They spent their summers at Apple Valley Campground located in Acton, Maine, and went back down to Florida every winter. George is survived by his children, Katie Menedas and her husband Vinny, Elizabeth Smith, George Young Jr. and his wife Sharon, Gary Young and his wife April and daughter Darleen Howell. And pre-deceased children Glen and Kelley Young. He is also survived by his many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. At the request of George and Anne, a Celebration of Life will be held for both of them on Saturday, Jan. 5 2019 at GOODRICH Funeral Home located at 128 Washington St., Lynn. Friends and family are invited to attend. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. followed by a memorial service and final resting place for both at Puritan Lawn Cemetery. After the burial the Celebration of Life will continue at Gannon Golf Course where friends and family are also invited to attend.
