IAN PHILIP EVERNDEN, a 55 year resident of Bellevue Road, Pine Hill in Lynn, passed away on March 10, 2017, at North Shore Medical Center after a brief illness. He was 91 years old. Ian was born November 16, 1925, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, to the late Ernest and Helen (McQueen) Evernden. He was a World War II veteran who served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1943 to 1947. After the war, Ian attended McGill University under the Canadian GI Bill. While at the university he met his future wife and love of his life, Ann Holdsworth, from Lynn, Massachusetts. They married in 1952 and later moved with their two young sons to Lynn in 1961. Ian was a self-employed fire protection engineer until he retired in 1995. After Ann passed away in 1998, he lived independently until his death.
Ian is preceded in death by his stepmother Isabel and brothers, Harry Evernden and Richard Evernden.
He is survived by his two sons Scott (Susan) Evernden of Holliston, MA, and Blake (Jan) Evernden of Morro Bay, CA. He was the beloved grandfather to Dana, Pierce, William and Riley. He is also survived by sisters Patricia Ashby and Norma Kirchen of Canada and by several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be sadly missed by friends, neighbors and by his very dear friend Marcia Hoey who was with Ian until the end.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday 2-4 p.m. in the Goodrich Funeral Home, 128 Washington St, Lynn.
