Joan Winifred (Speede) Alleyne, a Lynn resident for more than 40 years, born February 12, 1939 in Barbados; passed peacefully on March 10, 2020.

Joan was not only a mother but she continued to mother other mothers long after she retired from St. Elizabeth Hospital in Brighton. She loved long and hard and loved to love people, sewing and knitting clothes-she made the best sweaters-and was a world class cook for friends and family functions. She always seemed to find time; making time for others even when it seems she had so little left for herself.  And everyone knows how much she loved to garden: It was her pride and joy. Indeed, she was born with a green thumb, a big heart, and the strength to finish the race. RIP

Beloved mother of Ronald, Clyde, Richard, and Natalie Alleyne. Joan is also survived by two sisters, Ernester and Yvonne, 11 grandchildren: Rodney, Clifford, Akilah, Alex, Shaquille, Rikeem, Kassandra, Olivia, Precious, Pryde, and Derek; 6 great-grandchildren: Aaliyah, Trezon, Kalynda, Mason, Lakai, and one on her way. Funeral services and repass will be held at Zion Baptist Church, 4 Adams Street Extension, Lynn, Tuesday, March 17, at 11:00 AM. Visitation 10:00-11:00 AM
