Obituary

John "Butchie" Burke October 30, 1949 – June 6, 2026

John Richard Burke, 76, of Lynn, Massachusetts, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his loving children.

A lifelong Lynn resident, John was a proud United States Marine who served in the Vietnam War and retired as a mason foreman from the Lynn School Department. He was known for his kind heart, sense of humor, adventurous spirit, and love of family and friends.

John enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, bird watching, animals, music, and spending time at the beach. He especially loved cooking on his charcoal grill and sharing meals with those he loved. He was a fan of horror movies, science fiction, westerns movies, and enjoyed playing his Big Fish Casino game on his iPad, and scratch tickets. He spent several years as a lobsterman, a job he enjoyed the most despite getting seasick every time he went out on the water.

Above all, John was a devoted family man. He spent his life caring for the people around him and took great pride in his children, grandchild, and loved ones. His strength, generosity, and love will be remembered by all who knew him.

John leaves behind his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

"Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day."

Survived by his children Daughter Bonnie Lybarger and her husband Rodney Lybarger and his grandson Warren Moniz, Son Adam Burke, Son Robert Randazzo and Daughter Shannon Burke. His Brother Richard (Ricki) Burke, wife Karen Burke and his nieces Kristen and Meaghan, Brother Timothy Burke and his late wife Traci Burke and his nephews Brett Burke and Jason Grant, Brother-in-law Lawrence Alioto and his niece Stefanie Dalton and her husband William Dalton and their children Justin, Jocelyn and Jolie, and his very dear friends John Hicks and Beverly Drillis. John is predeceased by his Late Wife Paula Burke, Mother Harriet Burke, Father John Burke, Sister Patricia Alioto, Brother Michael Burke, Brother Edmund Burke, Brother Sean Burke.

A Celebration of Life will be held in John's memory on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 1pm-3pm, at Goodrich Funeral Home, 128 Washington Street, Lynn, MA.
