José Antonio Cordero Quiles, 78

José passed away peacefully at home on February 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of his wife and children. He was the devoted husband of his life long sweetheart, Placides "Payita", with whom he shared 56 years of marriage.

Born in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Antonio Cordero and Ramona Quiles, and a long time resident of Chelsea before moving to Lynn. At the young age of 22, José showed the depth of his character by taking on the role of a father to three young girls. He didn't just join a family; he built one, raising them with the same devotion, protection, and love as if they were his own. José was known for spending time with his family, and was often seen holding babies, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He spent his early career at Emerson Textile in Chelsea, and then later at Budget-Rent-A-Car, as a service agent in East Boston.

He was a man who lived for his family. José leaves behind his beloved wife, four daughters: Maria and spouse Rudy, Nereida and spouse Pablo, Carmen, Margarita and spouse Alex, and one son, Jose Jr. and spouse Tina. He was the cherished "Papa" to his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and is also survived by a large family of nieces, nephews, and in-laws who loved him dearly. He also leaves behind his siblings Aurea and deceased spouse Luis, Concepcion, Arelys and spouse Tite, and brothers Henry and spouse Paula, and Esteban. José is predeceased by his father and mother, and his sisters Lidubina, Maria, and Flor.

José will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.  May he rest in peace.
