Born on April 26, 1960, to James Weldon Horner, Sr. and Mamie Lou "Helen" Horner, Karen grew up in Dorchester, Massachusetts.
A proud graduate of Lexington High School, Class of 1978, Karen carried her passion for education and equity throughout her life and career, largely shaped by the legacy of those before her.
