Margaret (Berry) Kimber, known to many as Marnie, age 88 years young, passed this life on Sunday March 13, 2016. She was the widow of the late Ralph Kimber Sr., and daughter of the late Idella Jordan (Berry) Pleasant and Andrew Berry. She was the mother of the late Priscilla Kimber and Jaqueline Walcott, sister of the late Robert and Andrew Berry and Ethel Henry. She is survived by her beloved son Ralph Kimber Jr., her daughter in law Diane Kimber, her adopted daughter Sally Upshaw, all of Lynn, 5 grandchildren, Renee Harrison of Maine, Paul Kimber of Maine, Marnie Reid of New York, Ralph Kimber III of Lynn, and her adopted granddaughter Angela (Upshaw) Smith, 12 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and many extended family and friends. She was a devout member of Zion Baptist Church for over 55 years. While at Zion, she has taught Sunday School and Bible Study. Sister Kimber has also chaired many fund raising projects including the Building Fund. Sister Kimber was also the First Woman Chairperson of the Trustee Board for 14 years and First President of the Fellowship. She became a Deaconess and Treasurer of the Benevolence Funds and Delegate to Council of Churches. She was also allowed to keep her Position on the Trustee Board, another first. Sister Kimball was also the First President of the Lynn Community Brotherhood Auxiliary to be elected to serve more than three terms allotted by the by-laws, serving six three year terms. She later served as a Chaplain. Sister Kimber was also on the Executive Boards of various organizations; Lynn Economic Opportunity (LEO) Community Minority Federal Credit Union, Stop and Shop Consumer Board and the American Cancer Society. She attended Lynn Public Schools and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School and a member of The National Honor Society. Sister Kimber loved her family and her church. These were two of the most important parts of her life. Known for her Sense of Style and generosity, she will be so missed. Today we celebrate her life and legacy. May God keep her close til we see her again…
A funeral service will be held in the Zion Baptist Church, 4 Adams St. Ext., Lynn on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Arrangements by the Goodrich Funeral Home, 128 Washington St., Lynn.
