Obituary

Whitkin, Martin (1948-2024) of Swampscott, MA passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on June 17, 2024, at the age of 76. Martin is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Nancee Whitkin, his son Jonathan Whitkin and his wife Elizabeth Whitkin of Marblehead, and was the cherished grandfather of Benjamin Whitkin and Lex Whitkin. Martin was born in Hartford, CT on April 8,1948 to Arthur and Mary Whitkin.

Martin graduated from Boston Latin School and later graduated from Boston University. He worked as a jail officer at the Suffolk County Jail and later as a court officer before earning his J.D. from Suffolk Law School, which led him to a distinguished legal career as an attorney for the parole board, private practice, and the SORB.

Martin was a talented artist, musician, and photographer, and his love for music and art was a significant part of his life. Martin loved playing the guitar, painting, and making the whalers' art scrimshaw. Martin was an award-winning artist and his artwork was displayed in galleries at the Marblehead Association of Arts as well as the Newton Library.

Martin was a brilliant man and a great father. He loved spending time with his son Jonathan. The two shared an unbreakable bond; some of Martin's fondest memories were playing baseball with his son and spending time together on the beaches of Cape Cod. Martin had a great sense of humor, was a lifelong learner, and had a zest for life. He will be truly missed but never forgotten.

Martin's family will mourn his passing with a private service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations in Martin's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of America, Greater Lynn Senior Services, All Care Hospice, or the Marblehead Association of Arts.
