Ms. Monica Renee Murkison was born July 4, 1966, in Lynn, MA, to the late Aron Murkison and Catherine Murkison.
She was a life-long Lynn resident and she attended Lynn Public Schools. Monica Renee earned her Adult High School Diploma from the City of Somerville in 1998. She continued her education at North Shore Community College.
Monica Renee was employed at Roxbury Community College as an administrative assistant within the Nursing Department and Student Life services for 20 years. She enjoyed working closely with students and all of her peers within the college community.
Monica took pleasure in reading, cooking, interior design, walking the beach, and writing poetry. Monica Renee played a pivotal role in the lives of all who knew her.
She was a devoted mother, loving family member, trusted mentor, constant encourager, and a steady shoulder to lean on. Her family and community were her greatest treasures, and the memories she created with them were the jewels she carried most dearly.
She is predeceased by her brothers Reginald Ondrae Murkison, Kenneth Wayne Ward, as well as her parents Aron and Catherine Murkison.
Monica is survived by her children: son, Dean O. Murkison and granddaughter Nyomie-Skye of Lynn and daughter Juliana Frances Espinal-Murkison of Saratoga Springs, New York. Sisters: Katrina Bingham of Lynn, MA, Tabitha Simone Murkison of Dedham, MA. Brothers: Anthony Murkison and wife Barbara of Salem, MA, Darrell Murkison and Wife Nadine of Lynn, MA, Alexander and wife Delita of Lynn, MA. She also leaves her aunt, Mary Rose Akers of Lynn, MA, and uncle, Willie Edward Underwood of Birmingham, AL, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and friends.
Calling Hours for Monice Renee will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, from 9am-11am, at Zion Baptist Church, 4 Adams Street Extension, Lynn, MA 01902. A Funeral Service will begin following Calling Hours at 11am on Wednesday, March 11, 2026; followed by a procession to Pine Grove Cemetery for Committal and Graveside Services.
