Obituary

Swampscott - Nikolaus "Nik" Kennedy, also known as "Klaus," was born on March 31, 1978, in Lenox, MA, raised in the beautiful Berkshires, and passed away peacefully on October 7, 2026.

Nik was a creator in every sense of the word, a gifted carpenter, an architect, the kid's bike technician, the "Klaus" of all trades. But perhaps his greatest gift was the life he built around him: a home filled with love, friendships built to last, and a lifetime of memories shared with the people he loved most.

Together, Nik and his wife, Izabela "Izzy", built a home and a life filled with laughter, love, and the beautiful everyday chaos of raising their two daughters, Stella and Gwen. There were days of working on the house, fires in the backyard, and summer nights at the beach. It was a life that reflected who Nik was: creative, hardworking, adventurous, and deeply devoted to his family.

Above all, Nik loved being a dad. Stella and Gwen were his greatest pride and joy. He was there for soccer practices and cheer games, afternoons at the park, and days exploring the coastline. He took his girls kayaking, skiing, and seeking sea-glass on the beach. There were rides along the coast in the Jeep nicknamed "Turtle," days catching waves at the beach, and countless outings that became the fabric of their childhood. Nik found extraordinary happiness in the ordinary moments of fatherhood. For all the places he had been, nothing meant more to him than being Stella and Gwen's dad.

Nik grew up in the Berkshires, surrounded by the mountains, woods, and natural beauty that would shape so much of his life. His childhood there, with his parents, Sharon and Nikolaus, and his brother, Kristofer, gave him roots that stayed with him wherever life took him.

A talented athlete from a young age, Nik was a Massachusetts high school state cross-country skiing champion who went on to compete at the USSA Junior National Championships. He chased waves in Hawaii, Central and South America, and up and down the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. A skateboarder, skier, and surfer, Klaus seemed most at home outdoors, preferably with a little adventure ahead of him.

Nik earned a B.A. in English Literature from UNH and went on to work in film production before earning a Master of Architecture from the BAC. His combination of creativity, intelligence, and craftsmanship was evident in everything he did.

To his friends, Nik was someone special. Endlessly cool without ever seeming to try, he had a warmth and easygoing spirit that drew people to him. He built friendships the way he built everything else: with care, authenticity, and lasting connection.

Nik is survived by his wife, Izabela; his daughters, Stella and Gwen; his parents, Nikolaus and Sharon; his brother, Kristofer; his nephews, Emil and Miles, and their mother, Alexis; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers- and sisters-in-law, and dear friends.
He will be remembered in the sound of waves breaking along the shore, in the beauty of something built by hand, and in the countless little moments that make a life extraordinary.

Löwenherz, Klaus. We love you, Deda. May you be riding an endless wave in heaven.
