Obituary

Novia Turkette Jr., often referred to as Novi passed away at the age of 71 on Sept. 2, 2020.  At the time of his death, he resided with his two of sons in Lynn, Massachusetts.   He had been battling Stage 4 Hepatic Carcinoma like a CHAMP for the last 3 years.

Novi was born on July 23, 1949 to Novia Turkette Sr and Edna Martin in Lynn, Massachusetts.  He was one of eight children, and was known to be a witty, prankster of a little boy that liked to be tickled lightly to fall asleep, and was known to be over protective of his siblings.  People were drawn to him; they always could depend on a good laugh.  He married Edna Brown of Lynn On Feb. 17, 1973 at the Justice of the Peace on Tutor St in Lynn.    Novi worked as a foreman on the Big Dig, and this gave him a sense of pride that he got to be a part of something bigger than himself.  He resided in Lynn and briefly in Peabody.  Novi had a distinctive character; he was tough and strong for the men in his life, but soft and loving with the women in his life.  He had a heavy Bostonian dialect that can not be faked; when he would crack jokes that dialect, grin and wink made everything just a little funnier, especially with the fact that he possessed a quick sarcastic tongue.  His laugh was infectious, when he laughed, you laughed.   He was a stickler about his hygiene and appearance even on the day of his death – he was insistent on being meticulously clean about his appearance, and those close to him are acutely aware that we often choked on his heavy, but expensive scented aftershave.

He is survived by his sisters: Laura Puglise of FL, Mary Mohammad of Everett, Elaine Maciejka-Tracchia of Malden, Judith (Judy) D'Amaral of Portugal, Carolyn (Fillmore) Olson of Georgetown and of his brother Robert (Bob) Turkette of Billerica.   He leaves behind his children:  Nancy Tower of Lynn, James Turkette of Lynn, Novia (Goomba) Turkette III of Lynn and Christopher (Chris) Callery of Dracut.  He leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.   In his last years, he was always particularly happy to talk about his granddaughters Gracie and Maddy; he loved his family whether by blood or by choice.

He is predeceased by wife, Edna Brown of Lynn, his sister Margaret (Peggy) Turkette of Lynn and his son, Harold Tower of Lynn.

Services for the public will be held at Goodrich Funeral Home at 128 Washington Street in Lynn, Massachusetts on Thursday Sept. 10, 2020 from 5-8 pm.  Funeral Procession for immediate family will begin at Goodrich Funeral Home, all others are politely asked to join the procession at the entrance of Pine Grove Cemetery, located at 145 Boston St, Lynn, Massachusetts on Sept. 11, 2020 at 1 pm.
