IN LOVING MEMORY OF OEUN "FRANKIE" POP
Oeun "Frankie" Pop, age 45, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025, at 10:20 a.m. His life was a remarkable testament to resilience, hope, and the enduring strength of family.
Frankie was the beloved son of Oeurm Pop and Phan Suon. He was born on October 8, 1980, at the Khao-I-Dang Refugee Camp in Thailand, after his family fled Cambodia in 1979 to escape the horrors of war. Throughout his early childhood, his family moved between refugee camps seeking safety—first in Khao-I-Dang Province, Thailand between 1979 and 1980, then Sa Kaeo from 1981 to 1982, and later to Chonburi 1982–1983. A planned resettlement brought them to Chonburi, but when Frankie became ill with tuberculosis, the family returned to Transit, where he received care. Despite the hardships of displacement and illness, Frankie's early life was surrounded by love, sacrifice, and the unwavering determination of his family.
On November 16, 1985, Frankie and his family arrived in the United States, beginning a new chapter filled with hope. They lived at 130 Lexington Street in East Boston from 1985 to 1988. During this time, Frankie began school for the first time in America, attending Alexander Hamilton Elementary School in Brighton. In 1988, the family moved to Revere, Ma where Frankie continued his education through Revere Public Schools, completing Revere High School, and later attended May Institute Adult Education in Revere, Ma. Frankie soon transferred his program in 2012 to Vinfen Community Support Services Day Habilitation Program in Watertown, Ma. Where he made more friends and family that adores him.
Frankie loved sports, especially cheering for the Boston Celtics, New England Patriots, and Boston Red Sox. He was a big fan of wrestling, particularly John Cena, and he loved sharing his excitement for matches with friends and family. Frankie was also really good at shooting basketball, a skill he enjoyed showing off and practicing whenever he could.
After Frankie's father became ill in 2012, Frankie was welcomed by the staff at his group home in Roslindale on 09/12/2012, where he discovered his new profound independence, which he was so proud of. Frankie continued to thrive and share his warmth and joy with those around him. The family is deeply grateful for the love, care, and support he received from all the staff who made his home a safe and happy place.
In December 2024, Frankie became seriously ill and received care at BIDMC, where he was supported by an amazing team of doctors, nurses, and staff who provided exceptional care, compassion, and comfort during his final months. Though the battle was tough, Frankie remained positive, strong, and fought until the end. The family extends heartfelt thanks to everyone at BIDMC for their dedication, kindness, and the extraordinary care they provided.
Frankie is survived by his brothers Chan, Em, Orn, and his sisters Ann and Sunya, along with their spouses. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, all of whom adored him deeply and were touched by his kindness, laughter, and loving spirit.
Even though Frankie was unable to speak, he communicated well. You will always remember Frankie by his smiles, his pointing, walking, and driving gestures till the end. May his beautiful soul rest in eternal peace. He will be profoundly missed by all who loved him. His story—one of survival, courage, joy, and connection—will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched.
