Obituary

Oretha 'Reat' May Cloudman Bowker of Saugus, Ma, passed away July 24.

The daughter of Irving and Mathilda Cloudman, she was born on July 21, 1925.

She was the sister to Arthur, Warren, and William Cloudman.

The devoted wife to Robert Bowker, recently departed. Oretha and Bob were married in May of 1948 and lived in Saugus where they raised their daughters.

Mother to Christine Bowker Popp with her late husband, Roy Popp, and Linda Bowker McCarthy and her husband Dennis McCarthy.

Reat was the grandmother of Jennifer Popp, Michelle Popp Dellascio with her husband Alan Dellascio, Michael McCarthy with his wife Tiffany Roberts McCarthy and Christopher McCarthy with his wife Dev Childra-hus.  She was also the Great grandmother, affectionately known as G-Nan, to Jessica and Jason Dellascio, Ryan McCarthy, Lachlan McCarthy, and soon to be adding Maeve McCarthy to the family.

Oretha was a doting wife, mother, grandmother, and G-Nan. She loved her pet cats and had a little dog named Pepper, who 'sang' Happy birthday with everyone. She loved daisies and anything sparkly. She had a pair of red 'Dorothy' shoes, that brought many compliments. She spent many hours reading and loved going to Barnes and Noble. She loved the New England Patriots, games and Super Bowls were always on, and she was still bitter about Brady leaving. Say yes to the dress, Westerns, and the Price is Right were a few of her favorites. Reat would very likely have won both the showcase showdown prizes. Saturdays were spent on shopping trips to Ann & Hope with her daughters and later her grandchildren.

According to her grandchildren, she made the world's best French fries and hamburgers, that were cut from real potatoes and using a meat grinder. She always had a ready supply of Franco-American Spaghetti soup, Canada Mints and Juicy fruit gum, which sat next to the butter in the cabinet. She disliked when three of her grandchildren sat on the hillside tossing slightly squishy grapes into the street to watch passing cars smash them. Up shoulder arms was a 'game' played often. Oretha was an expert at driving a constantly stalling Ford Bronco around Saugus, while frequently making up names for the various characters in town. Old Fuddy Duddy was often at the bus stop.

Vacations were spent going to the White Mountains with her family. Camping in a pop-up camper towed by the Bronco was the way to go, followed later by cabins and motels. She really didn't like the couches at Norms Motel, (Sorry Norm) and she secretly loved, while groaning, driving back and forth on route 302, looking for moose.  Santa's Village, Clarks Trading Post and Storyland were always a big draw. She loved Dr Geysers remarkable raft ride, where she would inevitably be the one to get soaked. She also enjoyed visiting the river by the Cog railway.

Oretha was forever taking care of everyone, even if they didn't need it.  She often told her family how proud she was of them all.

The heart of her family, she will be greatly missed by all.
