Peabody, MA Roger Francis Murphy, 71 passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016 while at the Lifecare Center in Lynn. Roger had struggled with medical issues for a long time.
Born in Salem, August 12, 1944, he was the son of the late Edward and Agnes Murphy. Roger grew up in Peabody and graduated from Peabody Vocational High School, Class of 1964. Entering the US Navy, Roger served aboard the cruiser USS Long Beach as part of operation "Sea Orbit" — USS Bainbridge, Long Beach, and Enterprise as the first all nuclear powered task group on an around the world cruise of 58 days without being refueled or resupplied. Following his time in the service he attended the Coyne Electrical School and began his career. Eventually becoming a highly respected master electrician, working for many of the north shores electrical contractors.
He is survived by a son Roger P. Murphy of Salem, MA and his brothers William and Joel of Peabody.
Along with three nieces Karyn Hebert of Danvers, Jana Griffin of Middleton, Christy Murphy of Plymouth and one nephew Barry Murphy of Portsmouth, RI.
ARRANGEMENTS: A graveside service will be held in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody, at a date to be announced.
