Obituary

Seandy Sok, 37, of Malden, MA, suddenly passed away on Wednesday, February 21 after a long struggle with diabetes. Her loss is completely unexpected, and her family is profoundly saddened.

Seandy was born on October 17, 1986, to Hiek Chou and Charlie Youn in Cambridge, MA. She is survived by her parents and her three sisters: Sarin Sok and her husband Dan Luoma (of Carlisle, MA) and their three boys, Teddy, Calvin, and Bobby; Bory Sok and her husband Nelson Fernandes (of Brockton, MA) and their two children, Sebastian and Arya; and her youngest sister, Christine Sok. She was also the granddaughter of the late Nim Sok and Yen Youn, Charlie's parents, and Heang Uch and Soot Chou, Hiek's parents of Cambodia.

Seandy was born to two first-generation immigrants from Cambodia who came to America in search of better opportunities for their children. Hiek and Charlie, who survived horrific tragedies under the Communist Pol Pot Regime as preteens, made it to the refugee camps of Thailand where they married and had their two eldest daughters. Through immigration sponsorships, they were able to come to America and settle in Chelsea, Massachusetts. Soon after, Seandy and her younger sister were born. Seandy attended Chelsea Public Schools and eventually completed her education in the Malden Public School System after her parents moved to Malden, MA.

Seandy's first job was at Stop & Shop in Malden. After Stop & Shop, she started working at Kelly's Roast Beef in Medford, where she worked for almost 15 years. She was considered the OG (original gangster) of Kelly's. In 2021, she decided to take a leap and apply for a job at the Tufts University Café, where she worked until her untimely passing.

Seandy was always into art; she enjoyed painting and drawing as a hobby. She liked visiting museums, traveling with her best friends, and had a great love for food. She also had a passion for makeup and was playful and light-hearted with everyone she encountered.

Seandy was dedicated to her family; she worked hard to assist her parents financially. She adored her niece and nephews, and spoiled them every chance she got.  She found so much joy in being Ming (Aunt) Seandy.

Her departure comes as a great shock and a deep wound, and it is keenly felt by her entire family and the countless others who deeply loved her in her village. The family sincerely appreciates your support during this difficult time.
