Sith Thy, age 79, of Lynn, MA passed away peacefully on May 17 th , after briefly suffering from a brain injury.
Born in Khom Kompong Preah, Srok Sangkae, Battambang, Cambodia on July 12th, 1942, Sith was the son of the late Thy Srey and York Roeurn of Cambodia. He was the oldest of seven children. He is survived by his wife Sang Chor of Lynn, beloved children; son, Sarin Srey of Revere; son, Marakot Srey and daughter-in-law Meily Pov Srey of Seattle, WA; daughter, Rattanak Srey of Avada, CO; son, Chanrath Srey of Stockton, CA; son, Viseth Srey and daughter-in-law Vanntha Tuon Srey, and by his ten grandchildren; Nathan Krisna Srey, Aden Srey, Aaron Dom, Kaysith Dominic Sen, Giovanni Matrey Net, Larissa Taylor Proccianti, Dane William Proccaccianti, Noah Benjamin Srey, Devin Pekthracon Sith, and Weylon Vuthy Srey.
Sith is also survived by his brother, Chy Srey; sister, Vy Srey; late brother, Let Srey; brother, Paul Srey; brother, Chinn Srey; brother, Samnang Srey; and many loving extended family members and countless dear friends.
Sith was born and lived in Cambodia until adulthood. When the nation fell under the oppressive and communist reign of the Khmer Rouge, Sith, like millions of Cambodians, endured unimaginable pains and sorrow. Amid this suffering, Sith found Jesus and was saved by the grace of God. It was through the blessings of God that Sith was granted political asylum, the first of his lineage, to legally migrate into the United States.
Sith and his family arrived in Brighton, MA on September 27, 1981. He devoted his life to his faith and family. He continued to earn a bachelor's degree in Ministry from San Jose Christian College and eventually became a Pastor in Venice, LA. Sith's love was prominent and his ability to share the Gospel was well-renowned in Cambodian communities nationwide.
Towards the later years of his life, Sith resided at the Advocates in East Boston due to his degenerative dementia. Despite his illness, Sith held tightly to his faith with everlasting hope. His legacy lives on through the love of his family and those who came to know him.
A funeral service will be held for Sith Thy on Friday, May 28 th at Goodrich Funeral Home, 128 Washington Street, Lynn. Visiting hours are from 4-7 pm.
A burial service will be held on Saturday, May 29 th at Goodrich Funeral Home at 9 am and procession to Pine Grove Cemetery in Lynn at 10 am.
